Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create an album?+
Tap the "+" button on the home screen to create a new album. Give it a name, choose a category (or create your own), and optionally set a reminder schedule for when you want to take progress photos.
How do I take or add photos?+
Open an album and tap the camera button to take a new photo, or tap the photo library button to import existing photos from your camera roll. You can also use the ghost overlay feature to align your new photo with a previous one for consistent positioning.
What photo comparison modes are available?+
Then & Now offers three comparison modes: Side-by-Side places two photos next to each other, Slider lets you drag a divider across overlapping photos to reveal the before and after, and Timelapse creates an animated sequence from all your progress photos in an album.
How does metrics tracking work?+
You can track custom metrics alongside your photos. Add measurements like weight, body measurements, ratings (1–5 stars), text notes, picklist options, or any value you want to monitor over time. Metrics are displayed alongside your photos so you can see the full picture of your progress.
What is the ghost overlay and voice timer?+
The ghost overlay shows a semi-transparent version of a previous photo on your camera viewfinder, helping you match your pose and position for consistent progress photos. The voice timer uses voice commands and a countdown timer so you can take hands-free photos, perfect for full-body shots.
How do private albums work?+
You can lock any album with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. Private albums are hidden from the main view and require authentication to access. Your biometric data is never stored by the app. It uses your device's built-in security.
Are there limits for free users?+
Free users can store a limited number of photos per week. Exported images from free accounts include a small watermark. Upgrading to premium removes all photo limits and watermarks, and unlocks every feature in the app.
What are the subscription plans?+
Then & Now offers three premium plans: Monthly at $4.99/month, Annual at $29.99/year (includes a 1-week free trial), and Lifetime at $99.99 (one-time purchase). Premium unlocks unlimited photos, watermark-free exports, and all advanced features.
What does premium unlock?+
Premium subscribers get unlimited photo storage, watermark-free exports, all comparison modes (including timelapse), advanced metrics tracking, private album locking, ghost overlay, voice timer, and priority support.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?+
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Then & Now in the list to manage or cancel your subscription. You can also manage subscriptions through the App Store app under your account settings.
How does iCloud sync work?+
When iCloud sync is enabled, your albums, photos, and metrics are automatically synced across all your Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account. Sync happens through Apple's CloudKit. Your data goes directly to your iCloud account, and Mahalo Mochi never has access to it.
Is my data private?+
Yes. Then & Now stores all data locally on your device. We don't collect analytics, use advertising trackers, or have access to your photos or personal information. If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, and we still can't see it. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I restore purchases?+
Open Then & Now and go to the subscription or settings screen. Tap "Restore Purchases" to restore any previous subscriptions or lifetime purchases associated with your Apple ID.
