About Brian

I'm Brian, at Mahalo Mochi LLC, a one-person studio. I make small apps and tools, and each one started as a problem of my own. I write the posts on the Then & Now and Resolutely blogs, too.

One person, lots of ideas

I manage all of my projects end to end, in the hours around a day job. I love learning how every piece fits together.

My goal is to make software that feels good to use, doesn't cost too much, and keeps getting better over time.

Apps I've shipped

  • Then & Now

    Launched February 26, 2026

A progress photo app for iPhone: line up every photo with Ghost mode, then see the change with a slider, side by side or as a timelapse.

I take my own progress photos with it. Ghost mode is what made my comparisons line up, as I wrote in How to Take Progress Pics.

  • Resolutely

    Launched November 2025

The goal tracker for your whole year: big goals, small steps, and a plant that grows as you do.

I built it for my own goals, after a spreadsheet of small steps and a journal worked better for me than any habit tracker. The story is in Why Habit Trackers Failed Me.

Both are on Mahalo Mochi's App Store developer page. Everything else I've made, from calculators to design experiments, is on the home page.

When I write about other apps

Some posts compare my apps with other people's, and mine comes first in each of them. Every one of those posts says that I make it, and says how I checked the others, so you can weigh what I recommend knowing who's recommending it.

If you spot something wrong or out of date, email aloha@mahalomochi.com.

Say hello

Email aloha@mahalomochi.com, or join the Mahalo Mochi Discord. Each app has its own community too: Then & Now's Discord, Resolutely's Discord and r/Resolutely.
